Michael Fury was born into the Travelling Community and his early life was such that he looked certain to follow in his father’s footsteps - the notorious Alex Fury, killed in a knife fight when Michael was a kid. Fury’s Achilles-heel is his fierce temper, which he inherited from his father and which he only barely controls. But with the help of his Uncle Timmy and, private school scholarships, a university education and his own initiative, he made it into the Gardai, where he has risen through the ranks. He is partnered by the young and loyal Detective Sergeant John Coyle.
While investigating the murder of Sean Lynch, Fury himself comes under suspicion as he is linked to the death of his tout, Ollie Dwyer. In his last call to the NBCI Dwyer claims he sold Fury an illegal gun to kill Derek Brogan, alias the Spider, who attempted to kill Fury outside his own house. This investigation is being carried out by DG Uchenna Oparanozie, Fury’s ex-girlfriend, whose intensions are ambiguous.
